If it’s not raining, it’s not training

Updated: Jan 11

…well sort of, we headed under the bandstand on Sundays bootcamp to shelter slightly from the elements, ‘adapt and overcome’ as they say. When the depths of winter kick in, most people retreat indoors… NOT US! There is just something about exercising outdoors in a group in winter, yes the crisp morning air instantly wakes you up & you initially question your life choices but getting out and moving together keeps everyone warm and motivated. I’ve always found its easier to stay consistent when you have others cheering you on and if you can have a laugh whilst you do it the time can fly.

We had a chat today about how it’s completely normal to wake up on these dark rainy mornings and wonder whether it’s worth getting up and out. However, we all agreed that if you can just push through that initial hesitation (basically your brain telling you all the reasons why you shouldn’t) you feel amazing afterwards and thank yourself for the rest of the day that you did something for you!

Research shows that cold weather exercise can covert white fat (especially round the belly & thighs) to generate heat and you can burn more calories! But it’s not all about physical health, outdoor winter exercise can also combat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) through sunlight exposure and increase levels of dopamine and endorphins. Often more effective than indoor workouts!
